Join us at the CLGA for the Curator’s Talk and Tour on June 2 from 1 – 4 pm!

Hi, my name is Jessica Parker and I’m a CLGA curatorial intern and co-curator of Looking Forward/Looking Back: 25 Lives 14 Years Later. The exhibition, a retrospective of the original 25 queer activists inducted in 1998 into the CLGA’s National Portrait Collection for their contribution to “out and proud communities,” updates us on the inductees’ lives and achievements over the past fourteen years. Recent images and personal statements are displayed alongside the original portraits, contextualized by archival material held by the CLGA.

The opening on May 11 was a big success! We had over 100 people visit the exhibition, including 1998 inductees Alec Butler, Lynne Fernie, Richard Fung, Amy Gottlieb, Tim McCaskell, Ken Popert, and Makeda Silvera. Bruce Jones, original co-curator of the 1998 exhibition was there, as well as surprise guest Neil Richards, who brought the original exhibition to the University of Saskatchewan in January of 1999 and was inducted into the NPC in 2000.

This internship has been full of new experiences and exciting discoveries. Please join me at the CLGA on June 2 between 1 and 4 pm for a “talk and tour.” I’ll discuss the curation of the exhibition, and what we’ve learned in the process, at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 pm, as well as answer any questions about the display. There will also be ample time to visit and read through the exhibition at your own pace.

I look forward to seeing you on June 2! For more information, please visit clga.ca.
