The Toronto District School Board is offering three prizes (worth $1,000 each) to the best Queer-Straight Alliance clubs in the city.
According to an article in today's Toronto Star: "the award seeks to honour groups that have increased respect for people of different sexual orientation and that have challenged gender stereotypes and homophobia. Among the activities it looks for in a winning club range from meetings, surveys, workshops for staff and peer education to school-wide awareness campaigns, brochures, posters, political activism, rallies, letter-writing and personal support."
The CLGA has long been a resource for queer students, and we're looking forward to supporting anyone who wants our help with this. In light of Elizabeth's recent post about the Halton Catholic District School Board's refusal to allow these clubs in their schools, this initiative sends a really positive message. Yay TDSB!
