New Hope for HIV Vaccine

It is still a long way off, but there is new hope tonight for an HIV vaccine in our lifetime. Below is an excerpt from the CBC news story tonight. To read the whole story click on this link:

"An experimental vaccine appears to cut the risk of becoming infected with HIV by 31 per cent.

The research by Thai and American scientists has not been peer-reviewed or published yet, but scientists worldwide have been watching the trial so closely and awaiting the results that the researchers announced their data analysis Thursday in Bangkok.

It's the first time a vaccine seems to have prevented HIV infections. The modest reduction was enough to encourage some researchers after 26 years of fruitless searching for a vaccine."

It was really amazing to hear that a vaccine is possible and it also means scientists are learning a lot more about the virus and how it works in the body, so this was a positive moment in my day. I think I had started to believe the conspiracy theorists who always say that noone wants a vaccine for HIV/AIDS since big pharma makes so much money from the very expensive treatments, but it was nice to see that there are still scientists working on this important cause.
